Tips for Peak District: Fox House & Ladybower

There are many places in the Peak District that you can explore. In this article, I will share two popular places: Fox House & Ladybower.

Before your walking adventures, there are a few things you will need.

1. Check the weather forecast

In Sheffield, people will say that the weather can change between four seasons in one day, which means the weather might rain before you go to the Peak District. By the way, it might be windy in Peak District.

2. Walking boots

No need to spend lots of money on them just make sure they will keep your feet dry!

3. Water-resistant coat or jacket

As I mentioned, the weather will change all the sudden, so make sure you bring a water-resistant coat or jacket with you.

4. Paper map of the Peak District

Some paths will only show on the paper map, not Google maps, so pick up a map or walking book as a guide.

Other things you might want to bring: biscuits, sandwich and drinks.

Let’s go to the Peak District!


Fox House

You can take the bus and it takes about 30 mins to get to The Fox House. Just show your student card and the bus driver will only charge you £1. After you have arrived at The Fox House, there are lots of different routes you can take depending on how long you want to walk for. There are few I recommend:

  • Burbage South Edge (40 mins walk) – This is a good spot for the first-time people here.
  • Carl Wark (80 mins walk) – If you want more challenge, you can come here.
  • Stanage Edge (140 mins walk) – This is one of the most famous places in the Peak District.


Ladybower Reservoir

In this journey, you need to make sure you plan your journey in advance to make the most of the day!

You’ll get the bus to Fairholmes Visitor Centre. In here, you can have a cup of coffee, hot chocolate or ice cream. It’s a lovely circular walking route by the water taking about 2.5 hours or even more. I recommend that while you walk back to Fairholmes Visitor Centre, you take some rest and then walk up to Derwent Dam Viewpoint where you can see the Ladybower reservoir completely.

These are just a couple of examples of places you can visit in the Peak District, there is plenty more on offer here and I hope that you make the most of it!

Orientation Week and Intro Week

This is the time to make new friends from all around the world Last year, I attended Orientation W eek for three days and the whole week of Intro W eek. These two weeks were wonderful because I made friends from France, Italy, Greece, South Africa, China, Malaysia, Britain, Hong Kong...etc. In j ust two weeks, I met students from more than 15 countries during the activities which T he University of Sheffield provided. What's the difference between  Orientation Week and Intro Week ? Orientation Week is a week before Intro Week which involves 100+ activities, such as movie night, c afe chat, history tour, campus tour and most importantly i cebreakers!
